Cantina Tollo is the best Italian winery according to the jury of Mundus Vini, the international competition held in its summer edition from 27 to 30 August in the German city of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. The Abruzzo group won no less than 17 gold medals and the same number of silver medals with a total of 34 wines awarded.
“The one obtained at Mundus Vini,” comments Tonino Verna, president of Cantina Tollo, “is an undisputed success that rewards a sixty-year-long journey, as well as the choices made by Cantina Tollo to date: every day we strive to improve the quality of our wines while respecting the environment and the work of our members. A result, the one achieved in Germany, of which we can only be proud’.
In addition to the wines from Cantina Tollo, awards were also presented to some labels from Feudo Antico, a brand that focuses on the Tullum DOCG area, and Auramadre, a project that promotes organic viticulture and wine.
Cantina Tollo is today among the most important and well-established companies in the Italian wine sector. It sells 13 million bottles a year, has around 700 members and 2,700 hectares cultivated in an area that has always been dedicated to wine production. Cantina Tollo’s vineyards extend from the coastal hills to the slopes of the Maiella mountain range, in a typically Mediterranean climate characterised by considerable temperature fluctuations. Production is concentrated on the typical and indigenous vines of the area (Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina and Cococciola), cultivated traditionally on the pergola, with a marked vocation for experimentation in the field and in the cellar.
Cantina Tollo bottles are distributed in all Italian regions, in almost all European Union countries, in particular Germany, the Netherlands, France, Denmark and the United Kingdom, and overseas in Japan, the United States and Canada. Cantina Tollo is also looking at new emerging markets such as Russia, India and China.
